the gardens that commemorate the Righteous of all genocides

The Righteous Gardens are remembrance places dedicated to those who opposed human rights violations in our most recent history, which has been marked by increasingly widespread genocidal practices.

After Yad Vashem Garden within the Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, other gardens have been created worldwide such as in Yerevan besides the Museum of Armenian Genocide, as well as in Milan, in Sarajevo and in Poland.

Trees symbolize life and call for its defence against the haralds of death; the example of the Righteous becomes a cry to our conscience and shows that even in the direst straights it is possible to choose not to remain indifferent.

This is why the Righteous Gardens play a role in terms of remembrance as an educational tool for the new generations, the protagonists of tomorrow's history, to whom they propose a feasible alternative, a warning and a message of hope.

The Gardens of the Righteous Worldwide Committee has created the Gardens of the Righteous of Europe on the Web, in the www.wefor.eu Website, which comprise:

  • the "virtual" Gardens built in 3D
  • the real" Gardens shown in videos

under a project approved by the European Community and dedicated chiefly to the young people in order to popularize the knowledge of the exemplary figures of moral resistance against the two forms of totalitarianism – Nazism and Communism – in European history of the Twentieth Century.

The WeFor Gardens are interactive and set up to the benefit of schools where teachers can use them as tools of dynamic education to research and learning able to grip pupils and involve them in the cognitive process.

The Website of the WeFor project interweaves with Gariwo for the creation of a network of blended IT offers concerning the different features of the Righteous and Genocide subject, in a unitary texture of updates, insights, exchanges of experiences and information, contacts and interactivity.
