Russian President Medvedev announced that Russian investigators identified Estemirova’s killer, without though revealing his name. The President condemned the murder and ordered a high-profile inquiry.
On 15 July 2009 Natalia Estemirova was abducted and killed. She had reported human rights violations in Chechnya. One year after her death Memorial holds a press conference in which it analyses the unanswered questions and the uninvestigated tracks.
Memorial chairman Oleg Orlov appeals to the Russian government and the International community asking for nothing similar to ever occur again to the Chechnian colleagues.

On 15 July in Moscow to remember Natalia:
- from 5.30 to 6.30 p.m. Memorial will hold a picket under Griboedov monument.
- 7.00 p.m., at Memorial House - Maly Karenty 12. Friends and colleagues will discuss the cases dealt with by Natalia in the last days of her life.
